Barcelona, 29 de mayo de 2026.- Willem Dafoe presentó su nueva película ‘The Birthday Party’ en el BCN Film Fest en Barcelona. El festival abrió el jueves 16 de abril de 2026. En la cinta, dirigida por Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Dafoe interpreta a un magnate naviero griego cuya trama transcurre en el verano de 1975.
El personaje que encarna el actor organiza el 25 cumpleaños de su hija en su isla privada, un evento marcado por el hecho de que el hijo mayor del protagonista murió en un accidente. Dafoe, quien tiene 70 años, vive cerca de Roma en una granja de alpacas y confirmó que en la vida real también tiene un hijo. Al ser cuestionado sobre si tiene más descendencia, respondió entre risas: “I hope so too, I only have one”.
Sobre su trayectoria, el actor recordó una anécdota reciente: “Some guys got on the train — and they’re sitting and they’re looking at me and they’re looking kind of rough. They were looking kind of mean and they were looking at each other, and then I heard one say, ‘Yeah, it’s got to be him. Nobody looks like that mother fucker.'”. Dafoe ha sido nominado al Oscar cuatro veces; su tercera nominación fue por ‘The Florida Project’. Sean Baker, director de ese filme, elogió la adaptación del actor a un proyecto pequeño con actores no profesionales y niños sin experiencia.
Cuando se le preguntó sobre detalles específicos de su pasado o carrera, Dafoe comentó: “I don’t remember, I really don’t remember… but it could be, I like those details”. Respecto a la idea de construir un legado artístico, fue contundente: “Not at all. Thinking about that causes problems. Because I go from one job to another, I immerse myself in them. If you think about legacy, you have to step back and observe yourself from the outside for too long. I’m not like that”.
El actor explicó que los intérpretes deben navegar entre la corrupción externa y la autoconciencia: “As actors, we have to navigate between the corruption that surrounds us and the corruption that comes with being self-aware… You have to have willpower so that your own opinion of your work isn’t based on external comments”. Añadió que prefiere mantenerse en el momento presente: “You pay a price, of course, because you stay in the moment, you don’t look back or forward, which is how you observe a legacy”.
